    Quickly!!

    TODAY ONLY
    Record Minimum Flow
    get off by noon
    -------
.. With "Hoot Owl" restrictions blossoming across our region the Firehhole River has not yet been closed.
    MASHED CADDIS
.. It is at record low flows and with the last few days of cool weather and the scattered cold rains the little creek is probably 'fishable.'
.. We won't bother. There are better places for catching and it won't hurt the fish as much. If you dash to the Firehole River today: get in early and get done by 12:00, (that's noon O'clock.)
    THE FRIENDLY BUG
.. The Madison River in Yellowstone National Park is also hot and low. Best catching opportunities are the estuary at Hebgen Reservoir and the deep dark holes around Baker's Hole. Hoot Owl closure below Ennis Dam.
.. The morning callibaetis hatch has been pretty good in the Madison Arm of the reservoir. Closer to shore the damselflie are going nuts and the trout along with them. Every now and agin, (think fog,) the trico eruption has been epic. Try the South Fork estuary.
    CADDIS CHATOYANCE
.. Caddis is king for consistent catching on the rivers. Fish them high and dry or fish the nymph. Soft hackles are a very close second. We are using a mashed caddis both above and below the surface.
.. Up on the Gallatin River Some grasshoppers have wings. Some don't. Watch the shore line near tall grass. The hoppers are in the water, (nymph and adult,) and a few fish may be selective. The hopper population is pretty good this year and soon this will be the go to ringer for a couple of weeks.
    SHOP VAC
.. It's a veritable smorgasbord for the fish right now. A few lingering little stoneflies are in the park. Beetles are active in the sun and ants have moved from their tunnels and mounds and are foraging for the coming winter.
.. The ants are apparent to us but probably not too plentiful in the water yet. No flying ant swarms have come to our attention. Then again, when spotted, the early fishers are rather closed mouth about it.
.. Miller caddis are sparse but augmented by spruce moths near wooded areas.
.. You can fish the whole menagerie with a parachute caddis, (smashed, floating, sunk, or skittering,) and/or a bead head shop vac.
    PARACHUTE CADDIS
.. Of course the neighbors are using up all their rejects from the winter tying experiments. The fish are very friendly at the moment.  Hoot owl closure from 4-corners to the Madison River confluence.
.. The earliest bunch of neighbors left at dawn for Snowflake Springs. We're on the way.
