BATTLE ROYAL IN YELLOWSTONE  © Michael Bryers Art
    -------
.. This little drama took place on a bit of water fished by many folks for Brook Trout in Yellowstone National Park.
    Mike Bryers
.. The episode was captured by artist and Yellowstone guide Mike Bryers who spends between 200 and 250, (Winter and Summer,) days guiding visitors to unique experiences in the park.
.. Mike is a favorite local artist, world traveler, and an expert on all things Yellowstone, (he better be he's been doing it for 30 years.)
..  Some of his paintings are available as prints (see them HERE.) He is also a photographic curator of Yellowstone Thermophiles, (see the galleries HERE.)
.. He captured this battle for the fish in a series of photographs over a period of more than 45 minutes. By the time the winner of this mini war was declared the fish had dried to a drab ghost of it's former colorful self. Mike has kindly allowed us to bring you these two images.
.. The snakes are large specimens of the Wandering Garter Snake, (Thamnophis elegans vagrans,) each approaching 30". They are common near water throughout the park. Their usual diet is composed of  frogs, tadpoles, salamanders, earthworms, slugs, snails, and leeches. This Brook Trout is about 8" long and represents a feast worth fighting over.
