Are You Watching ?

CONGRESS ATTACKS
Don't Lose Your Say
not only the president
THERE USED TO BE FISH THIS BIG
-------
.. By using the obscure and rarely used Congressional Review Act our elected representatives plan to repeal the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement's (OSM) Stream Protection Rule.
.. This was urged by the Americans For Tax Reform in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell [LINK-A.] Although the rule, (enacted by the Gingrich contract with America,) is seldom used and frequently unsuccessful, The current  congress has a makeup that could guarantee it's success.
OPEN PUBLIC LAND
.. Energy and Environment News has a note about this threat in their current issue [LINK-B.]
.. The review is only supposed to affect rules and orders within the last 60 days but, since congress was present so little during the last session it can be extended.
.. Bloomberg posted a "QUICK TAKE" today [LINK-C.] and THE WASHINGTON POST details the possible results and pitfalls of the impending action [LINK-D.]
.. This action and several others are detailed in The Hill, an excellent and near real time synopsis of actions taking place in congress [LINK-E.]
COOL CLEAR WATER
.. From a fisher and hunter point of view the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership has just published a piece on the kinds of restrictive public input that will result if this action is taken by our elected representatives [LINK-F.]
.. The only action possible for concerned citizens is to contact their elected representatives in congress. Express your opinion. Letters count more than emails. Registered with return receipt is the absolute best and most effective.
.. This seems to many to be just a small step. It is and it's an important first step in the confiscation of public lands by the states and even local municipalities.
.. What's for lunch?
