MAP UPDATE  --  EXPANDED CLOSURES

..  Yesterday the MAPLE FIRE gained about 700 acres in the face of some light rain and high elevation snows.

.. Currently the fire is about 42,000 acres with perimeter burning and protected pocket burns. Some smoldering and large log fires are present near the west and south sides of the fire.
.. The closures have been expanded and fishing access along the Madison River, Cougar Creek, Fan Creek, and Campanula Creek, are impacted.

.. Fishers should check with the West Entrance Station to Yellowstone National Park for access and closures.
.. The last few days of cool and damp weather have signaled the upcoming Fall weather.
.. A return to warmer and drier weather in a few days will encourage both fishers and fire activity.

.. Hazy details and whispered reports of large fish in the Bakers' Hole region have surfaced. It's a bit early for the runner stampede but there are always a few early submarines to be had.
.. A couple of the neighbors split from the gulper grounds and fished up the estuary of the Madison Arm. Several large fish were hooked and two "respectable" sorts were captured on smart phone portraits.

.. Both the Firehole River and the Madison River have cooled down and folks are even fishing on the Firehole River.
.. The best catching opportunities are in the morning and employ the ever faithful soft hackle variants.
.. Portions of the Madison River around 7-Mile Bridge will experience temporary closure as burnout activities continue. Visiting Barns Holes is restricted and occasionally closed.
.. The current cooling should last for another day or so and then a return to warm and dry conditions is anticipated. Be sure to plan your fishing activities with the fire and smoke conditions in mind.
