.. Even the Gibbon River is yielding some fish to intrepid fishers of the fly. It must be time to quit talking about the color of the water and begin investigating the mysteries of bugology.
.. As we speak read there is a fine selection of bugs for fishers to use in beguiling the wily trouts of Yellowstone National Park. Early as it is, the first bug, (noticeable by it's unusually early presence,) is the lowly ant. Flooded areas of both the Madison River and Firehole River have disturbed some nests and the hungry trout have taken notice. Fishers should too.

COULD IT BE ?

.. The PMD sorts are beginning to show on the Firehole River and even some White Millers are around . . . hmmmm. The wee caddis are also peeking out in the afternoon and rumors of Baetids are floating through the suds in the local pubs.
.. Of course those folks more interested in fish catching than in flies and fly patterns are still swinging soft hackles - hard to beat.
.. The friendly little stream is settling into it's Spring form, (including a widely appreciated drop in temperature,) and as the waters continue to slow, catching will become easier for both the visitor and the faithful as well.
.. The fish, the bugs, and the fisher folks have adopted a gentlemanly demeanor and are waiting untill the afternoon for their most energetic shenanigans.
.. The neighbors have started to crowd the choice, (read slower and clearer,) bits of the Madison River. Most are still using groceries to prick the trout. Black Wooly Buggers, large Silli Legs sorts, and small streamers are in the water more than in the box.

THE SNORTLE

.. There is still some color in the water - not to worry - fish gotta eat. They are letting their presence be felt with stupendous grabs of fierce energy.
.. Right now, there's no doubt if there's a fish on the end of the line. It's not easy fishing, it's not hard either. It is rewarding.
.. The weather is being perfectly perfect. Drizzle, thunderstorms, clouds and gentle breezes are the, finally, offerings from mom. Just about like it ought to be.
.. The fish poisoning will be in full swing as the water recede. We're working on getting some detailed information on the timing and specific locations. Until then you might best check with the National Park Service about your favorite "Non-Glory-Water." There will be a continuing series of poison dumps throughout the park this year.
