WALLPAPER: PERFECT DAY FOR A BBQ
-------
.. Mother's Day brings the final respite of the shoulder seasons to our village.  Winter is on the wane and Spring is on the wax.
.. Early visitors are in the streets but there are still parking places at the grocery store. The long lines at the Post Office are indicative of seasonal workers and seasonal residents getting an address for a few months in the hope that mail will find them.
.. In just 14 days it will be Memorial Day and the "OFFICIAL START" of the Summer season, (including fishing on the west side of Yellowstone National Park.)
.. Chaos will reign as travelers try to navigate with hand held devices through a small village of only 6 blocks square. Eyes would do as well, this ain't The Bronx.
.. Before all hell breaks loose the neighbors take this opportunity to gather together and gird their loins for the onslaught of wandering non-English-speakers, visitors in shorts with white socks and sandals in a snowstorm, motor homes the size of condominiums, lost dogs - and their poop, and entitled lost souls that believe Yellowstone National Park is only as big as Central Park in New York City.
.. In our sector of the neighborhood it's been pork for the last couple of weeks. Pork is full of life sustaining grease. Pork that has been lovingly cooked so sweet and moist and tender that it falls off the bone. Pork in all it's glorious forms that the Spring, down below, provides: chops, ribs, shoulders, hams, bellies, cracklin's, and even hog jowls.
.. For some unknown reason pork seems to fit the occasion. It runs in cycles. Some years it's ground beef. Some years it's brisket. Some years, (few indeed,) lamb is the centerpiece. The jungle drums pound and the neighbors follow the beat. There were even a few whole pigs a dozen years ago.
.. Stories abound. By some deeply ingrained, unwritten rule conversation centers on stories and anecdotes about the foibles of visitors and residents alike.
.. Fishing is forgotten for the moment. A good time is had by all and the weather is a small consideration: after all it's Mother's day and Summer is soon to come.
