Some Other Runners

.. Just look at that pool. See the deep head? See the narrow tail? See the shadows at both the head and tail? Where are the runners?
.. Trout move to spawning beds conducive to survival of the roe. We all know this. Gravel size, oxygenated water, and other factors pull them to the appropriate places. Most of the time it's an upstream journey. River beds with less fine sediments and the correct size gravels are usually upstream - we all know that too.
.. In their journey they pause and park in places that afford protection, calm water, and the occasional bit of groceries. We knew that as well.
.. The famous runners from Hebgen Reservoir are beginning their journey up the Madison River. The whole world knows that. The whole world is, on the other hand,  probably ignorant of the monster fish in the pool shown above.
.. When you hit town you might ask at your favorite feather merchant where the other runners are. They might tell you. Then again . . . .
