Please Help

A SIMPLE RULE

We're Stressed

we want to smile

-------

.. Many of our visitors are walking the streets without a face mask.

.. There are places where close contact is unavoidable: feather merchants, grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, pubs, etc.

.. Since July 16, 2020 the standard in Montana is:

Face coverings are now required in certain indoor business settings for counties with four or more active Covid-19 cases, according to a new directive issued by Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D). Residents attending outdoor gatherings of 50 or more people when social distancing isn't possible will also require face coverings.

.. Gallatin county has been under this advisory for the last two months. Gallatin county has the highest Covid-19 case load in the state.

.. We want to continue our cordial welcom to visitors. This is a hard task when they are endangering our health and livelyhood. Please wear your mask. Thank you.

Neighborhood Feast

WORTH THE WATCH

Beef Barbacoa

around the fire pit

We Are Blessed With Super Neighbors

-------

.. These summer days have been strange indeed. We are having near 50 degree temperature swings into the 90's late in the day. With the odd work hours to compensate for the 'maskless hoards' invasion and, everyone working long hours there is little time for anything else.

.. The neighbor kids have a cut down 55 gallon drum that contains a small fire. A couple of folks got together and cooked up a feast = on their day off = great unselfish love.

.. Picnic tables and paper plates with some amber liquid and folding chairs = fantastic time in the dark of night. There were even a few left over meteorites to accompany the gentle levity and brief escape.

.. This recipe video is well worth watching.

..

-------

.. Rumor has it that The suicidal hoppers are rampant in the parking lot of Bacon Rind Creek. We believe it.

.. A riffling hitch is a useful device for the awkward presentation that the fish love. Be sure it lands next to the weeds with a 'splat' !!!!

Long Gone

FORGOTTEN TIMES

Forgotten Folks

never again?

-------

-----

.. A Covid-19 malaise has overtaken our front line work force. Bless their hearts, heavy is their heart as they struggle to be pleasant to the maskless hoards spitting through the grocery stores and trinket shops and other venues in town.

Exchange Of Spit Circle

.. It seems that vacationing visitors are also taking a break from safe public situations. Again, we have no 'official' numbers but -- the pubs have cumulatively lost 12 workers. The two grocery stores have lost a combined 8 workers. Gossip adds another 9 around town to the total.

.. In a village as small as ours and, with a captive workforce these are significant numbers. Everyone is pitching in with long hours and multiple jobs. The hoards continue as if they and we are exempt from safe protocols: NOT TRUE!

.. Yellowstone National Park has posted safety protocols at major attractions and included lists of safe behaviors in the newspaper provided each visitor as they enter the park. Visitors seem unable to read as they throw away the unread papers and charge past the new signage. We do wonder at it all.

The Little Carrot Scores Again
.. Our garden has a fine crop of weeds among the veggies - oh well. The second batch of strawberries is doing well. The cherries are just turning bright scarlet and beginning to be edible. All the rhubarb plants are in their third cutting and the most prolific that we've seen in a few years. The damn foxes have run amok in the asparagus bed and broken the fragile ferns. We really do need to steal some time for garden maintenance.

.. Need to steal some time for catching too. A few neighbors traveled to Ice Box Canyon. It's a long journey. It's hard to find parking places. It's straight down. It's worse coming up. Few folks fish there. Many fish were caught. Many stories originated. Steaks on the barbee - no pub crawl for us.

OH SO . . . . .

HOT !
Hot, Hotter, Hottest
creepy crawler time

-------
.. So we hit 90° F a couple of times. There's a few more coming down the 'pike. This is a signal for the neighbors to head to the grass.
.. The grass harbors ants, beetles, 'hoppers, spiders and such. The poor things fall in the water and get swept into the maw of trout.
.. Most of the neighbors are catching with gay abandon on the Gallatin River in Yellowstone National Park. They drove us up there for a sweltering mid day jaunt and the damn trouts were frenzied in the hot sun. We all danced and whooped! The sweat did pour.
JUST AN ANT
.. There were some interesting license plates on the giant and shiny SUVs. There were waders aplenty, (silly boys.) How sticky are waders in this heat? Oh well!
.. Right on time MAKFLIES has delivered a top water delight for our catching pleasure. One of our creative neighbors already has a half dozen of the little jewels. No sharing right now!
.. We were stuck with more pedestrian flies = the trout were willing to dance with us as well. The heat drove us home after a few hours of exhausting dancing. Not quite a fish per cast but, in that neighborhood. We recommend visiting the loops and riffles near any parking spot that you can find.
